The 2016 Phillies Payroll Situation, Updated

The Phillies are poised to have their lowest payroll since pre-2008. The 2016 team has only a few guaranteed deals, and most of them are in their final years. The team will have more MLB minimum contracts than they’ve had in recent memory. The roster will be younger than in years past as well.

This payroll is not entirely a prediction of the 2016 team. I can see changes coming in the rotation, the bullpen, left field, and the bench, particularly. Given the low payroll they have right now, the Phillies can fix any of these areas they want. This is simply a current update of what they would pay with the roster they have. Some are purely place-holder spots, such as me putting Asher in as the fifth starter already, instead of say David Buchanan or a free agent. Same for Cody Asche in left field, or Darin Ruf on the bench.

I will continue to update this as things happen.
