Lost in All of the Pope Coverage…

The Pope was in New York City this week. He celebrated mass at both St. Patrick’s Cathedral and Madison Square Garden. He paraded through Central Park. He visited Ground Zero and took part in an interfaith service there. In a city where nearly nothing is unique news, Pope Francis was easily the biggest story in the news.

He also addressed the United Nations General Assembly. He was not the only world leader to address the United Nations this week. We are currently in the midst of the UNGA, where world leaders address the world body and lay out their agenda. In normal years, this makes it’s own brand of news, and draws some fairly interesting different leaders to the microphone. This year, Pope Francis was easily the biggest story.

Today in New York City the “Global Citizen” concert is in Central Park, and is drawing tens of thousands to see acts like Pearl Jam and Beyonce. This coincides with the UNGA meeting. While this isn’t getting as much coverage, it’s a huge event. Clearly the UNGA is a major event in it’s own right- the Pope actually attended it.
