Expectations for the Flyers

In two of the last three seasons, the Flyers missed the playoffs. In fact, they haven’t won a playoff series since 2011-2012. This has lead to a new GM after 2013-2014, and a new head coach after 2014-2015.

The Flyers have some talented players. Steve Mason in goal has his moments when he can be really good. Claude Giroux and Jacob Voracek were amongst the most prolific scorers in the league last season. Wayne Simmonds lead the team in goals. Sean Couturier and Brayden Schenn seem like they’ve been around a while, and yet they are very young. Young players like Sam Morin and Shayne Gostisbehere also give the team hope.

Most pundits who know hockey better than I say the Flyers will not be a playoff team in 2015-2016. I don’t know that I disagree, given the youth of this team. On the high end, I can see them sneaking into the post-season. On the low end, it could be a very difficult season. I will be optimistic and say I see them in fourth in the division and just outside of the playoffs, going into the pre-season games.
