Why do the VMA’s Still Exist?

The MTV VMA’s have long been one of my favorite events of the year. I watched them every year growing up, and remember many a great moment. I’ve watched incredible performances, some of my favorite artists winning awards, and events like Kanye’s mic grab. The VMA’s are a part of my generation’s existence.

When I was a kid though, MTV played music videos. To be clear, many attack MTV for showing other kinds of shows, but that is not a new thing (Beavis & Butt-Head were awesome). That does not bother me at all. The real difference between 1994 MTV and 2015 MTV is the lack of actual music videos in 2015. If you don’t play music videos, why would you have a Video Music Awards show?

Obviously I’ll flip onto the show if I can find the station, but I’m not really sure why. I guess I need to see the point to watch the show.
