My Best Wishes to President Carter

Several decades ago, Jimmy Carter was the 39th President of the United States. While his overall record was much better than he got credit for, he was defeated in his bid for re-election in 1980 by Ronald Reagan. He could have retreated to private life from there, but instead he’s been one of the most successful, active former Presidents we’ve ever seen. Whether it was his work monitoring elections overseas, speaking out on the behalf of the disadvantaged globally, or building homes for those in need, through Habitat for Humanity, President Carter did more to help more people after leaving office than any President before him. He’s become the best of what we export as a country, a real treasure to our country.

Yesterday, President Carter announced that he has cancer that has spread beyond his liver, through his body. He will adjust his schedule and get treatment for cancer at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. Now in his 90s, President Carter is not a young man, and will face a very tough challenge to beat this killer disease.

I think I speak for most decent people in wishing the former President luck. We all hope he can beat this awful disease and continue to represent out country so well.
