Hinkie’s Solid Deal
Patience is a virtue for the Sixers. Last night, the Sixers took advantage of their considerable salary cap space and took on salary from the Sacramento Kings. The Kings wanted room to go sign some free agents. The Sixers wanted more future pieces. Both teams got what they wanted.
In exchange for taking on about $14 million in salary commitments to Jason Thompson and Carl Landry, the Sixers are getting a very nice package. They can swap picks the next two years, if they choose. They also land 2014 lottery pick Nik Stauskas, a shooting guard out of Michigan. They also get the Kings 2018 first round pick, if it’s not top ten, which if they land the free agnets they want, it won’t be. The Sixers trade away two second round international picks from this year in the deal.
In the end it’s just more pieces, but Stauskas should get more playing time in Philadelphia than he was in Sacramento, and a chance to show his talents that he showed in college. That alone should excite him, and Sixers fans hoping to see a back-court come together.
