Marriage Equality Wins

In 2004, President Bush won re-election to the Presidency in part by running against marriage equality. He was pushing constitutional amendments in the states banning gay marriage. He used that to help him win a narrow election, very effectively in fact.

So now, just eleven years later, the U.S. Supreme Court is ruling to legalize marriage equality nationwide. Yes, it was 5-4, but that’s as good as 9-0 in this case. The case paves the way for marriage for all. In just eleven years, the issue moved that far.

Today, we are a little bit closer to that “more perfect union” that we like to talk about. The words “all men are created equal” is closer to reality. Bigotry and hate lost today in the Supreme Court. That is good news for us all.
