Someone Teach the Senator Some History….

Address to the Nation on Immigration. Oval.

I have a feeling Tom Cotton will be a regular topic of discussion for many people for years to come, and not in a good way. The freshman Senator from Arkansas seems perfectly willing to say any controversial thing he can to get a camera in front of his face- much like Ted Cruz. He also seems unwilling to have a clue what he’s talking about.

Tom Cotton says we can bomb Iran and destroy their nuclear capabilities “in a couple of days.” No, really, he said that. Aside from how reckless that talk is, it sort of presumes that war is the desired outcome, which it should never be. Even beyond the face-value ignorance, this statement is tone deaf to recent history.

We were going to be liberators in Iraq, and be greeted with parades and excited Iraqis waiting for us. They were going to welcome our intervention. Oh, they also supposedly had advanced weapons systems and were going to do bad things to us. Those were the days of George W. Bush of course, our last Republican President. He’s been out of Washington a little over six years, and now we have a new Republican Senator pushing the idea of some painless military intervention in the Middle East. The man is not only ignorant in his desired outcomes, and reckless, but he’s also ignorant to recent history. This is a dangerous combination.
