IronPigs Roster Outlook, 3/30

As camp winds down this week, minor league rosters are going to start to make sense. One of the more interesting spots in the system this season will be Lehigh Valley, where a lot of players will pass through, even if they’re not going to start here. This is one of the toughest levels to predict because it’s hard to tell which guys who are cut will be willing to accept their assignment to play here. With that said, we do have some idea of who will be here, and here is my outlook:

  • Rotation- With being cut yesterday, Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez is going to start out in this rotation. 40 man rosterees Joely Rodriguez and Adam Morgan are also locks to be here to begin the year. The 2013 Minor League Pitcher of the Year in the organization, Severino Gonzalez will be here. Those four are easy. Then it gets harder. Jesse Biddle could be here, and probably will be later this year. There has been talk of stretching out Ethan Martin as a starter, and getting him some more work. Sean O’Sullivan is my prediction though to start the year, edging out Paul Clemens, who they will want to see in the bullpen since they are more likely to use him there.
  • Bullpen- Ethan Martin, Paul Clemens, Jeanmar Gomez, and Hector Neris are all basically locks. After a good Spring, Elvis Araujo is also a lock. Seth Rosin and Tyler Knigge are strong candidates to round this group out.
  • Line-Up- Cam Perkins will start out in right, followed by Andres Blanco at second base. Maikel Franco will begin the season manning third base. Russ Canzler will start out at first base to begin the year. Aaron Altherr will start the year in center, while Kelly Dugan will man left. Koyie Hill gets the go behind the plate, and Tyler Green begins as the shortstop.
  • Bench- John Hester will back up at catcher. Brian Bogusevic and Darin Mastroianni will back up in the outfield. Chris Nelson and Chris McGuinness will fill out the squad.
